JUNE / JULY NEWSLETTER

Bringing you the latest from the heart of Hunslet.

Hello, Hunslet Club Community!

Welcome to our June / July newsletter, your go-to source for all things happening at the Hunslet Club. As the summer season approaches let’s take a moment to reflect on the fantastic events and achievements of our community throughout June and July.

A Brilliant Day at Our Annual Summer Gala!

The sun was out in full force, but that didn’t stop anyone from having a great time and braving the heat to celebrate another year of The Hunslet Club. From rides and inflatables to hook-a-duck, tombola, and a mix of stalls, there was something for everyone to get stuck into.

Our Dance, Drama, and Majorette groups wrapped up the term with some brilliant performances, and the art display was packed with impressive work from our young members.

The BBQ kept everyone fed, the DJ kept the vibes going, and the emergency services made a visit that the kids loved.

It was great to see the community come together, enjoy the sunshine, and just have a good time.
Big thanks to all the staff, volunteers, performers, and everyone who came down and made the day what it was. Roll on next year!

Sinead Peach joins the team!

We’re really excited to welcome Sinead Peach to the team here at The Hunslet Club as our new sports and activities co-ordinator.

Sinead is the current captain of York Valkyrie and one of the top players in women’s rugby league. She’s also a proud local talent, and we’re thrilled to have someone with her level of experience and passion joining us.

In her new role, Sinead will be working directly with young people across the club, from activity sessions to team training, helping to support their development both in sport and in life. Her background in elite sport brings a whole new level of knowledge and professionalism, but what really stands out is her genuine enthusiasm for youth development and making a difference in the community.

Having someone with Sinead’s energy and leadership around is a huge boost for the club, and we know she’ll be a fantastic role model for our young people. Whether it’s helping a child (especially young girls) pick up a rugby ball for the first time or encouraging a team to push themselves further, she’s here to help them grow in confidence and reach their full potential.

We’re proud to have her on board and can’t wait to see the positive impact she’ll make across our programmes.

Welcome to the club, Sinead!

Healthy Holidays and Summer programme of events

Summer at The Hunslet Club is here, and we’ve packed the calendar with more activities than ever! Whether your kids are into sport, art, dance, or just want to have a laugh and hang out with friends, we’ve got them covered.

Our football and rugby camps are perfect for young players who want to brush up on their skills, try something new, or just enjoy a good kickabout. With great coaches, plenty of games, and loads of encouragement, they’re all about teamwork, confidence, and having fun on the pitch.

If creativity is more their thing, Art Camp is the place to be with painting, drawing, crafting, and getting stuck into loads of imaginative projects. And for the performers, Dance Camp is all about learning cool routines, trying different styles, and showing off what they’ve learned in a mini end of day performance.

Then there’s our legendary Activity Camp – the ultimate mix of sports, games, challenges, crafts, and surprises. Every day is different, every day is packed, and every day is FUN from start to finish.

The best part? We can’t be beaten on price – tickets start at just £15 for a full day and as a non profit each penny goes back into our youth programmes and providing more and more services. That means your kids get hours of action, laughter, and new experiences without breaking the bank.

So whatever their interests, scoring goals, making art, dancing it out, or just having a blast, there’s a place for them here this summer. We can’t wait to see you at The Hunslet Club!

Introducing SEN Activity Sessions to The Hunslet Club!

We’re excited to share that The Hunslet Club is now running free SEN Activity Sessions every week, tiwce a week, thanks to funding from the Inner South Community Committee.

These sessions are specially designed for children aged 3–11 with Special Educational Needs (SEN), offering a safe, welcoming space to play, explore, and have fun.

Each session is packed with activities including games, sensory play, dance, movement, and plenty of opportunities for children to enjoy themselves in a relaxed and supportive environment. Our aim is to celebrate every child’s abilities, encourage confidence, and give families a space to connect with others.

Sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00–4:30pm at The Hunslet Club. Parents or carers are required to stay and support their child during the session to ensure everyone feels comfortable and secure.

There’s no need to book just simply come along, sign in at reception, and join the fun. If you have any questions or want to know more, you can email zcreasser@hunsletclub.org.uk.

We’re proud to be building a more inclusive programme and can’t wait to welcome more families through our doors.

3G update – The Hunslet Sports Village coming soon!

We’re thrilled to announce that our brand-new 3G facility is ahead of schedule and in fact, we’re three weeks ahead of plan! The pitch is looking fantastic (so perfect it could almost be AI-generated) and we can’t wait to see it in action and been put to use by our young members.

This is just the first step in our vision to transform the site, formerly known as The Hunslet Oval, into a vibrant community sports village. The plans include improving the area around the clubhouse and adding a brand-new catering facility to better serve our members and visiting teams.

The newly named Hunslet Sports Village will be home to Hunslet ARLFC, Hunslet FC, and Leeds Riverside EFC, creating a true hub for sport in South Leeds.

We’re also proud to announce a new partnership with Leeds City College, who will be bringing their post-16 Sport and Public Services departments to the site. Alongside this, we’re developing an exciting new Rugby League Academy in collaboration with Hunslet ARLFC and Hunslet RLFC, providing fantastic opportunities for young people to study and train right here.

Thank you to all our members, volunteers, and partners for your ongoing support. The future is bright – and this is only the beginning.

Spotlight on Success: The Hunslet Club Solitaires

Well done to The Hunslet Club Solitaires Majorettes on an excellent competition season. From our youngest members to our senior performers, the troupe has impressed throughout the year with skill, dedication and strong teamwork. Every routine has shown the hard work and discipline that goes into training, and the results speak for themselves.

A special thank you goes to Charlotte, who leads the section with great commitment and experience. Her guidance and enthusiasm have helped the team grow in both confidence and ability, and her effort behind the scenes is appreciated by everyone involved.

This season has been a real success and a credit to all who took part. We look forward to seeing what the Solitaires achieve next year and to welcoming new members into the section.

Supporting Our Young Leader – Holly Saunders for Leeds Youth Mayor

We are incredibly proud to be supporting our young member, Holly Saunders, in her campaign to become Leeds Youth Mayor.

Last night, Holly hosted an inspiring campaign meeting here at The Hunslet Club, speaking with passion about the issues that matter most to her:

  • Increasing physical activity to break down barriers and help young people reach their full potential
  • Encouraging more girls into football and promoting equality in sport
  • Reducing screen time and inspiring more active lifestyles
  • Boosting confidence, social skills, and community connection through kindness
  • Raising awareness around mental health for young people

Holly is a true leader and role model, and we are proud to see her stepping up to represent young voices. She is also the only candidate from South Leeds, making it even more important for our community to rally behind her.

Let’s make sure the young people of our area are represented on the main stage. You can show your support by voting here:

The Annual end-of term Summer Youth Club BBQ was a great night

We had a fantastic time at our annual end-of-term Summer BBQ, celebrating in true Hunslet Club style. The afternoon was packed with fun activities, including a colourful tie-dye fashion session, plenty of games, and of course, a delicious BBQ followed by cake.

It was the perfect way to mark the end of term , bringing together our young people, staff, and volunteers for an evening of laughter, creativity, and community spirit. A huge thank you to everyone who joined in and made it such a memorable event.

Club updates:

  1. Leeds Riverside EFC Trials Kick Off Ahead of the New Season: As we gear up for the start of the football season, Leeds Riverside EFC have officially begun their JPL trials, with training sessions taking place alongside them. The response so far has been fantastic, with a high level of skill and enthusiasm from all those taking part. We’re already seeing some remarkable talent come through the doors, which is a credit to the dedication and commitment of our young players. The buzz around the club is growing, and with the progress of our brand-new 3G facilities moving ahead of schedule, this is a truly exciting time for both The Hunslet Club and Leeds Riverside EFC. These developments represent a big step forward in providing the very best training environment for our players and in helping them to develop their skills both on and off the pitch. We look forward to watching these young athletes grow throughout the season and to welcoming even more members to join our football community.
  2. The Hunslet Fashion Project 2025: The Hunslet Fashion Project began in June, focusing on creating for calm, confidence and connection. It has been fantastic to see so many young members coming together to design, make and share ideas in a supportive and creative environment. We are grateful to Burberry for their generous support, donating materials, machinery and a sewing machine, as well as helping to upskill our staff. Thanks also go to local business The Style Attic for providing additional support and materials for our sessions. Without this help, the Hunslet Fashion Project would not be possible. The group is now working towards an exciting end-of-project fashion show, which will take place in September. It promises to be a celebration of creativity, talent and teamwork, and we can’t wait to showcase what our members have achieved. Watch this space for more details and highlights from the event. Come and join us every Seniors Tuesday 7-9pm and Juniors Thursdays 5-7pm
