Hello, Hunslet Club Community!
Welcome to our April / May newsletter, your go-to source for all things happening at the Hunslet Club. As the summer season approaches let’s take a moment to reflect on the fantastic events and achievements of our community throughout April and May!
The Junior Youth Club at The Hunslet Club has been buzzing with excitement over the past few months as members have enjoyed a range of new trips and experiences. From bouncing around at Jump Inc to making a splash at the local swimming pool, these outings have offered fun, fitness, and friendship in equal measure. These trips and additions reflect our ongoing commitment to creating memorable, enriching experiences for every child who walks through our doors.
The Hunslet Club’s ‘Next Gen’ Youth Ambassadors are proudly putting Hunslet on the map through active community involvement. Recently, they represented the club at the Middleton Railway Community Event and Let’s Play in Beeston—two fantastic local initiatives aimed at promoting sports, play, and positive youth engagement. By connecting with local families, community groups, and event organisers, they showcased the power of youth leadership and built strong community ties. Their passion, confidence, and commitment are helping to create a more active, inclusive, and youth-focused environment across South Leeds. The future really is bright with Next Gen leading the way!
The Hunslet Club achieved a remarkable milestone in May, welcoming a record-breaking 120 children to our FREE Junior Youth Club, alongside a 243 more young people on the same day engaging in our wider activities such as football, dance, boxing, and majorettes. 363 young people walked through the doors in one evening. This momentous milestone shines a light on the growing impact of our work and the crucial role we play in supporting young people across South Leeds.
The Junior Youth Club offers a safe, inclusive space where children can explore sports, arts, and personal development. It’s more than just fun, it’s a vital support system during increasingly challenging times for families. As financial pressures rise, free services like ours are essential for helping young people build confidence, form friendships, and develop the skills they need to thrive and achieve their full potential.
We extend heartfelt thanks to the young people and their families, staff, and volunteers who ensure it is possible to run our FREE youth club sessions. Your continued support drives our mission forward.
As we look ahead, The Hunslet Club remains committed to providing diverse, meaningful opportunities for youth development. If you haven’t visited yet, we warmly invite you to see the difference we’re making. Together we’re building a brighter future for South Leeds and beyond.
The Hunslet Club’s Annual Easter Party was a huge success, bringing joy and excitement to families across the community. One of the standout highlights was the Easter Egg Hunt, which saw an incredible 156 children take part, our biggest turnout yet! The event was packed with fun, laughter, and plenty of FREE chocolate kindly donated by local businesses, creating a brilliant atmosphere for all ages. With games, arts and crafts, music, and treats, it was a true celebration of community spirit.
A special thank you to all staff, volunteers and young members who continue to make every event so special. Without your hard work and dedication we would not be able to serve the community and bring everyone together for these joyous occasions.
The Hunslet Club is proud to announce the start of work on of its state-of-the-art 3G pitch and the launch of the Leeds Riverside Elite Football Centre, a new Junior Premier League (JPL) team. These developments mark a significant milestone in the club’s mission to provide enhanced opportunities for young people in South Leeds.
The new 3G pitch, part of a broader initiative including three additional grass pitches, will be developed with support from the Lionesses Futures Fund, a £30 million investment from the Premier League, The FA, and the Government’s Football Foundation. This investment aims to celebrate the achievements of the Lionesses and to promote women’s and girls’ football across the country.
In tandem with the facility enhancements, The Hunslet Club is launching the Leeds Riverside Elite Football Centre, the first JPL team in the area. This initiative offers a structured pathway for young players aspiring to reach semi-professional and professional levels. By providing elite coaching and high-level competition, the program aims to nurture local talent and offer greater development opportunities.
Ryan Grant, Business and Education Manager at The Hunslet Club, stated:
“After a lot of hard work behind the scenes, it is finally time to announce the development of the new 3G pitch at The Hunslet Club, which will contribute to our wider plans of the Hunslet Sports Village. The new development, in collaboration with The Football Foundation, will allow our junior grassroots football and rugby teams to see a closer pathway to our open-age section following the ‘golden thread’. By having a world-class facility on-site, it will allow all members of The Hunslet Club to experience elite facilities in the heart of South Leeds.”
These advancements support The Hunslet Club’s commitment to promoting personal growth and community development. By investing in top-tier facilities and new programmes, the club continues to provide invaluable resources that help young people in South Leeds thrive.

The Hunslet Club’s Activity Camps have become a school holiday highlight for children across South Leeds, offering a wide range of exciting, youth-led experiences. What started as a small programme has evolved into a vibrant and diverse schedule with something for everyone. From specialist camps in Rugby, Football, Dance, Darts, and Arts, to the ever-popular Activity Camp, there’s never a dull moment.
The Activity Camp offers a mix of dance, games, baking, indoor and outdoor sports, arts and crafts, and disco parties, all designed to keep children active, creative, and having lots of fun outside of school. With the addition of trips and outings on many of our camps, the programme is giving young people more chances than ever to explore new environments, make friends, and build confidence.
What truly sets these camps apart is the youth-led approach, where the young members help shape sessions, giving young people a voices. Each holiday sees improvements and new ideas added, making the camps more engaging and inclusive every time.
The Hunslet Club’s holiday programme is growing from strength to strength, providing a safe, fun, and empowering space where every child can thrive. Tickets are now on sale for our summer programme of events.
