The Hunslet Club is currently delivering a Sport England funded project “Sport For All South Leeds.
The Club was one of 88 projects selected to receive a share of £15 million of funding to support grassroots sport activity across the country. The project aims to help more local people participate in sporting activities and has enabled the Club to develop new sporting activities across several sites in South Leeds.
Mike Diaper, Sport England Director of Community Sport, commented at the launch of the project “It’s great to be working with innovative projects, like The Hunslet Club to offer people the chance to get into sport in a way that best suits them.
The investment being made through the Community Sport Activation Fund is making a real difference at a very local level. I’m particularly pleased that more than half the funding is going into projects in deprived areas, helping more people develop a lifelong sporting habit.”
Since the launch of the project in July 2014, 2249 people have participated in the project (figure correct as at May 2016).
The project currently offers 34 sessions each week delivered at The Club and also in partnership with other local venues such as Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club, Middleton Leisure Centre, Hamara Healthy Liviing Centre, Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre and a number of local schools.
