The Hunslet Club over 60 years of working with young people

2000's

The beginning of the 21st Century has seen the club continue to grow from strength to strength with the expansion and development of a programme of vocational training opportunities for young people during the day. Schools across the area were soon learning that the Club had the facilities and teaching staff to train young people in vital and varied work related skills such as car and bike mechanics, construction, hair dressing and beautician skills. Hundreds of pupils have been sent from schools to the club and gained invaluable accredited qualifications.

Enjoying a run

The activities for young people on evenings and weekends have continued to expand to accommodate for their diverse range of interests. Irish dance, cheerleading, gymnastics, drama, streetdance, kickboxing and junior gym soon joined the programme alongside well established activities such as boxing, football and club night.

In 2008 the club name was shortened down to The Hunslet Club and refurbishments completed to improve communal areas of the building and accommodate more space.

The Club is now, more than ever, a bustling hive of activity throughout the day and into the evening. Young people from a whole range of backgrounds come together for the same reasons they did almost seventy years ago, for fun, friendship and to achieve their potential.

Over the years it has been committed, hard working staff and volunteers who have kept the place going and growing, encouraged and supported by the community it serves, and long do we hope it will continue to be so.
